Canon PIXMA Review

Overall Rating:
The first thing about the Canon PIXMA IP 4500 that surprised me was the speed. It
leaves other printers in its class for dead. I would go as far to say that it is up there with bottom end laser
printers. The IP4500 throws out an average of 12ppm of text and prints complex graphics at speeds from 3ppm to
3.7ppm.
The overall text quality was very crisp and rich, though it lost some smoothness
when it came to the more complicated fonts – though this was quite minor.
When it came to graphics all colours looked quite natural, with the exception of
flesh tones which suffered slightly and appeared to have a slight yellowish tinge to them.

When loading the ink cartridge’s the LED gives the user a red confirmation signal,
which confirms the cartridge is loaded correctly. This was some what confusing at first, but gets the message
across.
The black ink will set you back on average 3 cents per page; this will print 5480
pages using plain text. Colour pages will cost you 8.5 cents. The Pixma IP4500 can print on both sides of the page
automatically from either input tray, a great feature for a low priced printer.
The glossy black exterior gives the IP4500 a grand and stylish look. With the push
of a button, the door flaps open to reveal the top input and front output trays. A second input tray hides
underneath the main body; this is typically loaded with glossy photo sheets.
Canons bundled software which is loaded when you install the printer includes;
Easy photo-print EX for editing, organising and printing photos. The other software which is included is the
Labelling applet. The labelling software is designed to handle direct printing on CDs and DVDs, and a disc tray is
provided with the printer. This slots in behind a fold-down flap, once you've folded down the paper output tray
from the printer's front panel.
Overall the canon PIXMA IP4500 offers great value for money delivering fast and
sharp print quality. If you’re on a budget and need to print great quality photos and graphics without compromising
on speed this would be an ideal choice.
If you are considering getting a low-end laser printer the Canon PIXMA IP4500 will
do the same job for a much better price.
